I am using the AMT Converter, which came with Apple Media Tool 2.1.1, to convert AIFF sound files to WAV sound files. However, the conversion fails and the log reports "***Unknown Error". This fails with both 8-bit and 16-bit AIFF files.
DISCUSSION
When you install Apple Media Tool 2.1.1, QuickTime 2.5 is installed. The issue you are experiencing is related to an incompatibility with QuickTime 2.5 and the AMT Converter. In order to convert AIFF sound files into WAV sound files, remove QuickTime 2.5 and install QuickTime 2.1. When you do use the older version of QuickTime, you successfully convert the sound files.
