You may find it convenient to set the CPU Energy Saver control panel on all the computers in your computer lab or office to shut down when a machine has been idle for a certain length of time. If some of your computers are running At Ease, you will find that the CPU Energy Saver starts counting down at the appropriate time, but the computers do not shutdown.

The CPU Energy Saver cannot shut the computer down when it is at the At Ease login screen or At Ease panels. It does the countdown, but the computer remains powered on. However, if you are in the Finder or Restricted Finder of At Ease, the computer will shut down.

Using the Auto Power On/Off control panel, you can shut down your computer even when you are in the At Ease panels. This control panel may be a better option than the CPU Energy Saver in an At Ease-based computer lab situation because you have little control over which screens will be left open on each computer.

More information about Apple's energy saving control panels can be found online in Apple's Tech Info Library.
