A true watermark is a translucent design impressed on paper during manufacture which is visible when the paper is held up to the light. A similar effect can be achieved during the printing process, in which case, the design or logo of your choice is printed beneath the text in a shade of gray.
While the LaserWriter 8.3 does not have built-in support for creating or using watermarks, you can create watermarks with a LaserWriter or other Apple printer. There are several ways you can create and use watermarks.
QuickDraw GX and Pierce Paper Saver
You can use and create watermarks with QuickDraw GX and Pierce Paper Saver. Pierce Software, Inc. in conjunction with Apple Computer, provides a free copy of Pierce Paper Saver and Pierce Watermark when you install QuickDraw GX. Pierce Paper Saver and Pierce Watermark are QuickDraw GX printing extensions that enhance your printing capabilities when using QuickDraw GX printing and applications that support the new GX printing dialogs. third-party solutions3>Software can be used to modify print jobs and add watermarks. One product that has the ability to do this is Working Watermarker from Working Software, Inc.
Application level support
Microsoft Word 4 and later versions have support for inserting fragments of PostScript code, and formatting them in a special "PostScript" style. There were MacUser articles that outlined how to write fragments that would create watermarks for Word documents.
Certain Apple Inkjet printers
The StyleWriter 1200, Color StyleWriter 2200, and Color StyleWriter 2400 (second release) have printer drivers that support watermark printing.
