You may find that you cannot access a CD-ROM from DOS or Windows after you upgrade your Macintosh DOS Compatible computer to version 5.1.1 of CD-ROM Setup. Even if everything worked before you upgraded, you have not changed anything in the MS DOS environment, you could have some trouble.

In some cases, a CD-ROM disc cannot be accessed in the MS DOS unless there is a CD-ROM disc in the drive when the Macintosh starts up. This has only been tested with CD-ROM Setup 5.1.1.

Workarounds

There are two ways to work around this issue:

  1. Leave a CD-ROM disc in the drive at all times so one is present when the Macintosh computer starts up.
  2. Install an older version of the CD-ROM Setup software, such as version 5.0.4.The Famous Apple!
