TOPICI have an AppleVision 1710AV monitor connected to my Macintosh. When I start the computer I get no startup chime. When I restart, the chime sounds clipped.
DISCUSSIONThe AppleVision 1710AV monitor does not power on until it receives a video signal from the Macintosh computer. The issue you are experiencing is because the Macintosh startup chime precedes the video signal in the startup sequence, therefore the speakers on the monitor are off when the Macintosh chimes. When restarting a Macintosh the video signal is momentarily turned off, and the monitor again shuts down for an instant, cutting the power to the speakers. There is nothing wrong with your monitor or your Macintosh. To hear the startup chime, simply unplug the sound out cable from the back of the Macintosh that connects your computer to the AppleVision 1710AV monitor's speakers. You will hear the chime from the built-in speaker of your Macintosh computer.
