A fat application contains PowerPC code in its data fork and a 680x0 version of the same code in its resource fork. You can run a fat application on both types of Macintosh computers. Remember that PowerPC code is stored in the data fork of the application file by default when you build a PowerPC application. This makes building fat applications possible.
