We read all of the mail that comes into the alley@apple.com address, however due to the volume of mail we receive, we cannot answer every message. Several messages from Information Alley readers have indicated that they had problems after installing the System 7.5 Update 2.0 software. After some investigation, it appears that a general reminder might help others, so below you will find some general guidelines you should follow. Before you install any System update or any other type of software, you should always read the readme or read me files. Many venders have recognized that many people don't read these files, so they have decided to rename them to more cleverful names such as "Don't Read Me" or "Do Not Open". These files usually contain information that will help you either before, during, or after the installation of the software. The System 7.5 Update 2.0 software is no exception, the read me file that is on Disk 1 gives you information you need to know about System 7.5 update 2.0. In addition to this, there are more read me files that are installed during the installation, which you can read after the installation. If you are using a third-party printer, make sure you have the latest versions of the printer drivers. If you have an Apple printer, the latest version of the printer drivers are part of the update. If you haven't updated your printer driver in over a year, it is always a good idea to check and see if you are using the latest version. Even if you haven't had problems, there may be reason to update your printer drivers. Check with the printer vendor for driver information. If you have a third-party video card, you should contact the vendor to make sure you have the most current video driver. Once again, it is a good idea to check periodically with the video card vendor to make sure you are using the most current video driver. On Macintosh computers equiped with a 68030, 68040, or PowerPC processor Open Transport is installed. If you decide to use Open Transport make sure you have the latest drivers and control panels for any type of network device you use. If you use a SLIP or PPP connection to the Internet, make sure you are using an Open Transport compatible version of the software. By following these guidelines any type of System update you might do in the future should be a lot easier.
