TOPIC

This article addresses common problems with AppleVision Software and System 7.5 Update 2.0 (7.5.3).

NOTE: Apple is aware of the following issues affecting customers with AppleVision displays who install System 7.5 Update 2.0 and is investigating several options for addressing these issues. Apple will post notices as soon as a fix is available.**

Issues covered in this article:

  1. When a customer with an AppleVision Display and a PCI-based Power Macintosh computer attempts to use one of the controls (i.e., brightness, contrast, etc.) on the front of the display, a dialog box appears which says, "No AppleVision Display is connected".
  2. The Monitors and Sound control panel is not installed on the Power Macintosh 7200 series computers when the Easy Install option is chosen in the AppleVision software installer.
  3. The Monitors and Sound Control panel does not show Geometry, Color, and Monitor Sound.
  4. AppleVision software version 1.0.2 is not working correctly with 68040 or non-PCI-based Power Macintosh computers.
  5. Neither AppleVision software versions 1.0 or 1.0.1 get updated to version 1.0.4 on PCI-based Power Macintosh computers.

DISCUSSION

  1. When a customer with an AppleVision Display and a PCI-based Power Macintosh computer attempts to use one of the controls (i.e., brightness, contrast, etc.) on the front of the display, a dialog box appears which says, "No AppleVision Display is connected".

    Issue
The AppleVision Setup control panel is not removed from the Control Panels folder when System 7.5 Update 2.0 is installed onto PCI-based Power Macintosh computers. The °AppleVision version 1.0.4 does not work properly when the AppleVision Setup control panel is present in the Control Panel folder. The °AppleVision version 1.0.4 is launched by pressing the front panel bezel buttons on the display.

    Workaround
After installation of System 7.5 Update 2.0 you must drag the AppleVision Setup control panel out of the System Folder and restart.

(This issue only affects PCI-based Power Macintosh computers which did not use the Sound & Displays control panel. For example the 7200/75, 7200/90, 9500/120 and 9500/132.)

  2. The Monitors and Sound control panel is not installed on the Power Macintosh 7200 series computers when the Easy Install option is chosen in the AppleVision software installer.

    Issue
When customers with a Power Macintosh 7200-series computer performs an easy install of System 7.5 Update 2.0, the Monitors and Sound control panel is not installed but the AppleVision software is removed during installation. Since the AppleVision display requires one or the other to be present, the display will not operate properly.

    Workaround
After installing System 7.5 Update 2.0, you must run the System 7.5 Update 2.0 installer a second time. On the second installation the user must perform a Custom install of the Monitors & Sound control panel software. (This affects all Power Macintosh 7200 series computer users.)

  3. The Monitors and Sound Control panel does not show Geometry, Color, and Monitor Sound.

    Issue
When customers install System 7.5 Update 2.0 on PCI-based Power Macintosh computers, the installer does not remove AppleVision Setup from the Control Panels folder.

    Workaround
After installation of System 7.5 Update 2.0, customers simply have to drag the AppleVision Setup control panel out of the Control Panels folder. (This only affects PCI-based Power Macintosh computers which did not use Sound & Displays. For example the 7200/75, 7200/90, 9500/120 and 9500/132.)

  4. AppleVision software version 1.0.2 is not working correctly with 68040 or non-PCI-based Power Macintosh computers.

    Issue
When customers install System 7.5 Update 2.0, the installer removes the Display Enabler. Without Display Enabler, the AppleVision software will not work because there is no button manager.

    Workaround
To correct this issue, customers need to reinstall AppleVision 1.0.2 software following installation of System 7.5 Update 2.0.

(This only affects 68040 and non PCI-based Power Macintosh computers.)

  5. Neither AppleVision software versions 1.0 or 1.0.1 get updated to version 1.0.4 on PCI-based Power Macintosh computers.

    Issue
Because the System 7.5 Update 2.0 installer will not install AppleVision 1.0.4 (which is needed by the Monitors & Sound control panel) unless it finds AppleVision 1.0.2, customers with earlier versions of AppleVision software--specifically AppleVision 1.0 and AppleVision 1.0.1--will not have the proper AppleVision extension installed by System 7.5 Update 2.0.

    Workaround
Customers affected by this issue need, first, to install AppleVision Software 1.0.2, before reinstalling System 7.5 Update 2.0.

(This only affects PCI-based Power Macintosh computers.)The Famous Apple!
