There is a problem with the Alarm volume setting in the Newton 2.0 OS. When you use the Prefs in the Extras drawer to adjust the alarm volume to zero, then back to a different volume, the volume on the entire MessagePad gets muted.

The Newton device then will not allow you to adjust the volume, even though you change the setting in the Extras drawer.

Workaround

Step 1

Turn the MessagePad off and back on.

Step 2

Open the Extras drawer and adjust the volume. The sound should return.

This issue will be fixed in a future Newton Operating System Update.
