As I see it the goal of this package is to provide all the power of Adobe's premier photo editor Photoshop, but make it simple to use for the rest of us. I believe that it accomplishes that task. The newer 2.0 version has many improve features and overall functions much better than version 1.
Part of my test was to import directly from a Scanner. My scanner came with version 1 of PhotoDeluxe. In that version I was able to select the scanner tab and select my scanner from the list. In version 2, I was not able to. When I would select the scanner tab, my scanner was not among the selections. What I ended having to do was choose the other tab and then select my scanner plug-in. I find it troublesome that something would work fine in version 1 and not in the "upgraded" version. I eventually went to the Adobe web site's tech support section to find out that I needed to select the OTHER tab and then select my scanner. I also found this to be a problem with my Quick Take 200, but I have not check the tech support FAQ to verify the problem is with the software or an end user error.
Some other minor annoyances that I came across are that you are forced to go thru some of the menu selections in order. For example when I was processing an image I wanted to ship a particular step only to find that I could not click on the next tab in the series. I was forces to click in the tabs in order, even if I did not want to perform that function. This might be an annoyance just to me as I was a little impatient with the program, but to the novice, whom I believe this program is aimed at, this forces the user to at least verify that everything is at least checked in that order.
This can be easily solve though as the program does have an Advanced mode in which you can select any command in almost any order.
No matter which mode you are in, normal or advance, you still might have some problems navigating the menus as that are not quite up to what I call the Mac Standard. A few items are not where you would expect them to be.
In summary, I would recommend this program to anyone who wishes to import images and import and modify them and does not have the time, or wish to learn the ins and outs of Photoshop. But, if you are a Photoshop junky thinking this is a quick and cheap way to get the basic Photoshop editing functions, I would stay away as I think you will become very annoyed with this program even in advanced mode.
